Foshay Tower

The Foshay Tower is located at 821 Marquette Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was completed in 1929. This building was designed by Magney & Tusler, Architects and stands 447 feet tall with 32 floors. The owner Wilbur Foshay was so impressed with his visit to Washington D.C. as a boy that he modeled the tower after the Washington Monument. In August of 1929 he hired the John Philip Souza Band to play at the grand opening. The $20,000 check paid to Sousa bounced! Soon after the stock market crash Foshay was sent to Leavenworth for mail fraud and lost the building. This unique building stood as the tallest in Minneapolis for 42 years.
