s Merdeka 118 as the tallest building in SE Asia, and is presently in the top-20 tallest buildings worldwide. Echoing a concept popularized by Chicago's Sears Tower (1973, now Willis Tower), the design bundles 25 square tubes that progressively diminish to create the point; it shows the structural system and is functional; the tops of each square were designed to be decks and roof gardens. Per British architects Adkins, the design also draws inspiration from the traditional bamboo bundle—representing strength and unity in Vietnamese culture. While mixed-use, its primarily residential character means its average floor height is taller, giving it only 81 floors compared to similarly tall buildings with 90+ floors: e.g. Landmark 81's top floor is at 1,256 ft (382.7 m), while Kuala Lumpur's Exchange 106 office building has a top floor at 1,303ft (397.3 m) and crams in 106 floors. The design includes a mall and entertainment center on lower floors; residential on the lower-middle section; floors 47-77 include the 223-room hotel as well as restaurants and bars; and the SkyView Observatory on the top three floors. It is well-lit by LED lighting at night. It is the central anchor for a larger Vinhomes Central Park development.
