This replica nails the texture of the Pru's glass and metal exterior. With the black stain it looks just right.

gn in 1954, of course the awards were for proposals and – as developments are wont to do – it evolved significantly until we got the present Charles Luckman Associates-designed Prudential Center with the tower (1960-64) that jostled Boston into modern urban architecture and dwarfed the previous tall building, the old John Hancock (also available from IFT).
Charles Luckman had studied architecture but initially found himself in business, climbing up to be president of Lever Brothers – one of the things he did there was commission the landmark Lever House (built 1950-52) designed by Gordon Bunshaft and Natalie de Blois of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (also available from IFT; I have it, it's great). Not long after Luckman decided to become a practicing architect again… and being able to talk the talk of a corporate exec seemingly helped him finagle this commission over the original 1954 team that was loaded with superstars such as Walter Gropius, Pietro Belluschi, Hugh Stubbins, Carl Koch, and Walter Bogner. I think that's part of what soured some of the initial reviews of the tower (plus it was the first big corporate building in the home of traditional American colonial architecture), as well as some problematic street-level design of the overall center (much larger than the tower) that was heavily redone in the 1990s. I had a nice coffee at a Blue Bottle Coffee at the base of the Pru last March 2023 and looked with fascination up at the façade… I remember it when I look at this replica. Great job.
